South Korean composer and electronic music producer Code Kunst remixes “Black Dress,” a track from II: La Bella Vita [2020], the second album from the Los Angeles-based jazz/R&B singer/pianist Niia Bertino, who records as Niia. The album prompted a feature story about Niia on The Cut [“a heartbreak-infused collection full of modern, soulful iterations of the torch song”].
The original track was co-produced by Niia and Robin Hannibal of the Toronto R&B duo Rhye. Previous single “Obsession” premiered on Highsnobiety [“astonishingly lush, affecting, and downright musical”].
She's received praise from The New York Times [“trip hop that strips away the pomp, leaving only the ooze”], The Guardian [“spacious and immaculately constructed”], Pitchfork, Los Angeles Times, and others.
